Wind-resistant WINDWALL™ fabric, non-PFC DWR, and ThermoBall™ insulation work together to keep you warm—even when it’s wet out. With large diamond quilting, a rollover collar, and an easy high-low hem, this jacket makes cold-weather layering look good.

Technical Features

Warmth Rating

This jacket uses ThermoBall™ insulation, which mimics down but performs better in wet conditions. The wind-resistant WINDWALL™ fabric and oversized fit help trap warmth. It’s a great everyday cold-weather jacket for mild to moderately cold temps, but not designed for extreme cold or high-output winter sports without layering.

Waterproof Rating

This jacket features a non-PFC DWR (durable water repellent) finish, which adds light water resistance. It will shed light rain and snow, but it’s not fully waterproof and lacks seam-sealing or a waterproof membrane. Best for dry or mildly wet conditions, not heavy rain or extended exposure.

WINDWALL™

WINDWALL® is The North Face’s wind-resistant fabric technology designed to reduce wind chill while maintaining breathability.  It blocks the majority of wind (typically over 85%) to help keep you warmer in blustery conditions, without sacrificing comfort or airflow—making it perfect for cool, windy days when full waterproofing isn’t necessary. 

THERMOBALL™ 

ThermoBall™ is The North Face’s proprietary synthetic insulation designed to mimic the warmth and compressibility of down, but with better performance in wet conditions.

Unlike traditional insulation, ThermoBall™ uses small round clusters of synthetic fiber that trap heat in small air pockets—similar to down feathers. The key difference? It stays warm even when wet, making it ideal for damp, cold environments where down might fall short.
